* sighs * sprained ankle...

Poor dee dee took a nasty tumble yesterday and a super un-glam one at that too. Just finished having a late lunch with my mum at a corner coffee shop at River Valley Road and my mum walked off to the car while I followed behind… I was looking for a dustbin as I had a ton of used tissue to throw away. Apparently there was a giant hole in the road and I saw it!! But for some weird reason, I walked right into it, and bam!! I just slipped into it unknowingly and I was stunned for the next 3 mins. I could not move my right leg at all and I just layed on the road and stared at my right ankle, not knowing what I should do. And the next thing I knew, tears were flowing down my cheeks and I could not control it at all.

The uncle washing dishes behind the coffee shop saw me and kindly asked, “xiao jieeee… do you need help??” and I point weakly to my mum walking [still oblivious to my falling!!] to the car, “help me call my mummy….” So he tries… “HARLOOOOWWWW!!! HARLOW!!!

Hmmm… didn’t help at all. So I recovered slightly from the trauma of falling, and shout… “MUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

She turns her head back and realizes that her clumsy daughter is lying on the road and crying buckets, so she ran back and helped me up…. I swear, it was so painful that I really didn’t know whether I was crying out of pain…. Or trauma… geezzz… it was so embarrassing and I realized that I didn’t even thank the uncle!! Opps…

So my mum drove over to the famous sinseh, the shop is called Gim Hin or something like that… and after limping with much difficulty and swearing, the shop was closed!!! At 2pm on Sundays… [I fell at 3.30pm] So I got mum to drive over to Chinatown where I usually go for a massage for my slight injuries… and when the uncle rubbed on the right part of my ankle…… I was gripping the sides of the armchair so hard… and I just could not lean back…. The uncle kept telling me to sit back and relax but I simply just could not do that. After that, had to limp back down the stairs [the place was on the 2nd floor!!] and back to the car in the rain…. Such a sad day…

It was slightly better at night but it hurt a lot when I was trying to sleep… could hardly bend my right knee… this morning… it was really bad. I felt like my whole ankle swelled up and it was so stiff… and I was limping worse than the day before… so I really could not picture myself at work. Sms-ed boss to tell her that I could hardly walk and went to the sinseh… He didn’t want to listen when I was trying to tell him that my calf hurt a little, and he just stared at my right leg like it was an empty canvas… and thinking deeply on how to start on his work of art. When he rubbed my calf, I actually felt like…. A rush of blood being released from the blockage…. As usual, I was squirming in a very un-glam way in the chair and I tried really hard not to scream. He was fast and was done in less than 2 mins! Which I think is good?? So less suffering. Anyway, there was a long list of what not to do and eat…

1. No walking. The more I try to walk, the more it will swell up and it will take longer to heal. If im good, it will heal in a week. If I try to walk too much, it will take 2 weeks.

2. No baths at night.

3. No fried food, salted veggies, and dark sauce. Have light clear food…

4. Rest by lying down on the sofa with the injured ankle laid horizontally on the sofa.

5. Have early nights.

Basically that is all I can remember. He rattled off a whole list in mandarin and I only caught what seemed important. Had lunch with mum nearby and had fishball noodles and a teh-si-siu-dai… my mum got up first to get the car [it was raining again…] and I slowly wobbled off the seat and walked away. The drink store uncle came back to my table to retrieve his cup and said in a kind voice, “Watch your step ah…” Oh gosh… so pai seh…. So I smiled weakly at him… This sprained ankle is getting more attention than I thought…

Returned my 2 CSI DVDs to Video Ezy and wobbled over the the end of the shop to get more DVDs… I could not do much for the whole day except lie down and rest. So I thought of just drowning my sorrows in CSI episodes… So I grab 4 DVDs and walked back to the counter. I realize that it was cheaper to rent in quantities of 3s, and I clarified it with the guy. So I said I will get 2 more to make it worth while. But provided I can finish watching it in a week. Cause that would mean, 6 DVDs for 7 days rental. I pause and think for a while and just casually replied, “Should be no problem lar. I sprained my ankle and I can’t do much anyway.”

“Yeah, I can see that. Do u need me to get it for you? So you don’t have to walk there again?”

I think I have never been so embarrassed in my life. So I say thanks softly and wobbled out of the shop again…. I want it to heal NOW!!!!! AAAAArrrrggggggghhhhhh!!!! I feel so Pai Kar now!!!! Boohooohoooooooooo…. * Sniff * hope I can make it to BUTS this sat…. sigh…
