Monday 8th August 2005
Met up with the usual Longan Gang (again!) for one of Gaz's friends' dinner at Pizza Hut at Siglap. There were 2 birthday boys for the night, one of them was Darren who was some insurance agent (i think) and the other was Sharmin (Think he should be called Sharky, hee!). Don't know them well, cause only met up with them a few times for some spill over gatherings and didnt know what to buy for them! Got them a book each and Ah Zai had to resort to wrapping it in my car while i topped my cashcard at the petrol station. But i shall not cite where we got the books from! Heehee!
Had the usual pizza fare there and no one ordered any special drinks (must be trying to save money) and we had horrible tap water. But i drank it anyway cause i was thirsty from all the pizza lor... Wanted to order the spicy drumlets but i think no one heard my order or something so i only had pizza. :( After that, we proceeded to East Coast Beach to hang out and for some reason, Gaz kept walking and walking further and further away from my car! Finally settled down in some concrete gazebo and saw many many cute cats hanging around us. But they were anti social so they didnt bug us for any food.
The gazebo had two huge benches on each side, so there was a huge empty space in the centre of the 2 benches and got separated into 2 groups. On my side, I could not stop taunting Susie for some reason and both of us started squabbling like... what Ah Zai described, 2 squirrels fighting for nuts! Or rather, the scenario i saw were the 3 pigeons in some Warner Bros cartoon where these 2 pigeons will be fighting over something and the 3rd one, will try to stay out of it but will somehow get dragged into the fight. Poor Ah Zai was stuck in the middle of our fighting and he kept putting his hands over his head screaming, "Stop it the 2 of you. So irritating lor!"
But we kept on fighting and Stupid Susie started trying to shove me off the bench (I was lying down behind him like Cleopatra) and i said that i will have to grab his ass if he pushes me down because that will be the only thing i can grab to prevent myself from falling over the bench. He seemed horrified at that idea but we continued to bitch each other while eating "Chicken in a Biscuit", which i purchased at the 7-11. Its been so long since i had that lor! Im even surprised that it is still in production. Think i got high on that or something because everyone said i could not stop laughing and doing stupid things!
I noticed that there was a mole on Susie's face, and in my extremely high-on-Chicken-in-a-biscuit mode, i said, "Susie, is that a mole?? Arent you scared of getting mole cancer?!"
Dunno whats wrong with me, but that was how crazy i went.
Hung around the gazebo for some time while Gaz tried desperately to get people to go for karaoke but no one seemed to oblige him so we stayed at the gazebo for a while before proceeding home. Sent Sharky and his gal at his place (which is really super near Susie's house) and near the beach actually and Susie back to his place. Decided to be nice and tried to send Ah Zai to the Raffles Town Club bus stop where i thought it could help to shorten the bus ride home to Woodlands. But the poor thing had to wait almost 45 mins for the bus to arrive. Backfire again lor.........
Tuesday 9th August 2005 - National Day!!!!
Was having lunch with my brother when Gaz called to ask me to join them for the National Day Parade at Esplanade.... was a little hesitant to go but decided to since i have always been staying home on National Day and never really gone out on that day. Went to Orchard Road with my brother first and parked my car at Isetan Scotts and after that, my bro decided to go to Suntec. And for some reason, he die die want to go there lor. Dunno why. I think it is because he wanted to go to the Arcade lar. But i hated to go and be in Suntec because i think it is really inconvenient to get there and the place is huge! But my brother assured me that we could take a bus from Far East and it will stop nearby. So i bought the idea and hopped onto bus 700A.
But............ because of NDP, the bus stopped at the NTUC building, (near Chijmes) and we both had to walk alllllllllll the way to Suntec from there. I was already feeling extremely tired for some reason i dunno why, and I decided to be clever and told my brother to walk through the Beach Road way. Walked till i had blisters on my feet lor! So i ended up grumpy and my bro kept walking so fast. So it was pain pain pain pain..........
Had the worst sliced fish soup dinner ever at the food court and decided to make my way down to Esplanade after that. Had to walk through Marina Sq and from there, they blocked the path to the Esplanade from the traffic light to the next traffic light towards the Sheares Bridge. So i had to walk alllllll the way up and down again towards the stage. Once i got there, i called Gaz but he didnt pick up!!!!!!!!!! So i walked around in the super crowded place and called him so many times but he didnt pick up or there was no reception!!! By then, i got extremely hot and bothered and irritated with all the irritating people in the crowd and it didnt help when Gaz called me back, and i tried to walk towards the Sheares bridge, the stupid Cisco guard refused to let me through, saying that it was too crowded and too many people!
Once again, i got angry and i was trying to figure out how to get across the stage area and towards the parked doubled decker Hippo buses. Again, had to find a way to get there and had to walk outside the stupid place to get to the Hippo buses. By then i was super pissed and was 80% thinking of heading home! Luckily Gaz picked up his phone and i managed to find him and his friends. My face must have been super black cause he looked quite scared of me but i cooled down after a while.
Watched the parade for a while until Ah Zai called to say that he could not find us. He could hardly hear me on the phone too and he sounded highly irritated because he was fighting for his life in the mass crowd too. When he finally found us, his face was blacker than mine and more black than charcoal. Gaz and i were shivering with fear when we saw him and didnt dare to talk to him. After a while, he talked a bit and was better just before the fireworks display.
The fireworks display was really beautiful and i was super impressed with it. It really makes a difference when you see it in real life and on tv. From where we were standing, we could see all 3 different sets of fireworks! Really really pretty and i totally forgot about my irritatedness earlier the moment i saw the fireworks. But i was also quite clever, forgot to bring my camera!!!! So i could not take any pictures of the pretty fireworks and stood there like a snowman only.
After the fireworks, came the mobs. We tried to walk towards the underground bridge towards City Hall/Empress Place, but they covered the entry with this huge army like netting and it caused the crowd to use the lousy staircase. So we decided to divert and go towards Suntec side. So we had to climb up this stupid parapet (it is really low and people sit on it) but it was a little high for a short person like me so i needed some help to be pulled up and i cramped the left side of my butt! Sad lor! Then Ah Zai kept telling me to watch out for the loose netting or some hole on the ground like, 3 times, but after his warnings, i will still trip over nothing. I think my feet dont belong to me anymore.
Then............ we had to squeeze through the mob of people and they blocked the road to cross over to Marina (at the front of Esplanade) so we had to step on the poor grass and walked upwards (again!) towards the Colours By the Bay side and the crowd control by the (combined!) police and army was super bad and the crowd started getting agitated that they were being pushed to move upwards towards the stupid traffic light instead. So in the end, after we have crossed the road, the crowd from the opposite side pushed down the flimsy netting barrier and just charged towards our direction! So scary lor, like the 1950 riots all over again. On National Day somemore!
Then had to stagger to Suntec City's overhead bridge, where it was super crowded once again, and we had to walk in single file.... and like penguins! Because it was so squishy, we had to take one step at a time, so i felt like a penguin while the rest felt like their ancestors when they first came to Singapore................
Then walked to Shaw Centre (or Tower, im not too sure) for some drinks where they finished up the rest of the curry puffs that i bought and hung around till 10 plus. Had to take a train to Orchard to collect my car again and off to bed early.......................
