happening friday night... haha
cmi told me that he was going to meet ah zai during dinner to look for some place in chinatown, in temple street... at 7.30pm. so i went to chinatown point at that time only to find both not there yet. ah zai was still on the train while cmi was with his crazy boss who had afro hair. anyway cmi told me to go to temple street to find him first but i decided to wait for ah zai because cmi's directions isn't.... exactly the best. (think the liang seah street incident.) so i bought a lemon lime drink and sat outside macs and played my spongebob squarepants gameboy game while waiting for the 2, while ah zai got lost inside chinatown mrt station. the poor thing walked one whole round of the station before finding the correct exit. by then, i had already finished like 10 stages and killed 2 bosses in my game. pretty amusing i must say. i must have laughed out loud or smiled to myself when i was playing it.
anyway, the non-existent one who finally appeared and i walked to temple street.... but we had to pass mosque street, pagoda street and finally temple street to get there. no sign of cmi there so we told him to meet us at the centre junction of the street, opposite yum cha. while waiting for him, i looked up to one of the shophouses diagonally opposite yum cha and i noticed that the walls were painted red, almost the shade of an SQ girl's nails. and they hung these chee-na looking red lanterns on the ceiling. the name of the pub was "backstage". i told ah zai, "wah lau. this place looks like a brothel lor..."
when he looked up, he noticed this vertical rainbow stripe flag hung on the outside of the windows..... that was when i made a discovery that if they hang such a flag outside anywhere, it indicates that place is a gay place. woooooo.... i later noticed this poster of 2 half naked men on the door upstairs. hahhaha.... so when cmi finally arrived with his afro-hair boss, i told him to go up there.. but he screamed a very firm "NNNNOOO!" when he saw the poster...... kekekkeke...
we finally settled on some dim sum late at night (it was already 8.30pm when we started eating, i think.) and the whole place seemed to have run out of the so important sambal chilli to go with my dim sum. and they ran out of egg tarts and century egg porriage. so cmi replaced the congee with scallop cheong fan which didnt seem to show any traces of any scallops. the most amusing thing that happened there was when ah zai asked cmi to explain what was a prawn cheong fan.
ah zai : "what is this prawn cheong fan har?"
cmi : "oh, well, its made out of this thing that is really silky and soft.... and there are prawns inside........."
both ah zai and i laughed at his detailed explanation for a really long time before we could really order our food. the food was relatively alright and it came up to about $10 for each person. cmi treated me as he owed me for miffy's present.
we could not stand the cny crowd at the happening bazaar and we walked out to the main road pretty quickly. from there, cmi started bringing the 2 of us on an extensive chinatown tour, starting from tanjong pagar area, followed by the duxton hill area (we went up this staircase next to the pub that i went to for backfire king's 21st birthday), then walked towards the mini red light district area (keong saik street) where there were interesting boutique hotels (the royal peacock hotel, the tropical hotel - i hope i got the name right and hotel 1929. i had seen hotel 1929 featured in design magazines before and i was really impressed with the design. wish i can go stay there for one night. but dunno for what. haha....
here is an extract from hotel 1929's website :
"Each of the 32 hotel rooms come with different designer chairs.Guests will find that no two rooms are alike, with everything from furnishing and beds right down to the clear glass bathrooms being unique. Hotel 1929 also offers 2 specially designed suites with outdoor baths set in tropical roof gardens that overlook the bright lights and bustling streets of charming Chinatown. Unique, hip and comfortable, rooms are stylish yet truly affordable."
we then walked into this cute book cafe called whatever and i thought it had a very nice environment to it and just when i was all ready to chill out there, my balloon was burst when they said that the cafe closed at 9.30 while the reading area opens till a bit later. oh well, i will definately go back there soon. forgot to take their name card though. shucks.
i threatened to push cmi into a pub with a rainbow flag hung outside whenever i saw one. hahahhahaha...
so we slowly ventured to pearls centre opposite (the sleaze building with happening RA movie titles. we were feeling lost and dying to go somewhere to sit and chill for the rest of the night, so i finally decided to take 54 to clarke quay area. when we got on the bus, we forgot to press the bell at our stop and when we remembered, ah zai could not press the bell on time and later it resulted to a small squabble on whose fault it was to press the bell. : D
so we alighted at UE square and they decided to go to the gallery hotel where there was some pub that the 2 knew about. by the time we got there, my heels were killing my feet and calves, and..... the place was too noisy and that meant that we had to scream and shout at the top of our lungs to hear each other. so idea scratched. this resulted in more walking.
so we walked by the river which smelled terrible. i said it smelt of dead fish. ah zai said it smelt of boiled eggs. i think it was a combination of both. bleh........ finally, after more fruitless decisions on where to go, cmi decided to go to cafe cartel. which was conveniently taken over by a new cafe called "butter fingers". so we conveniently walked in to get our drinks.
we each had a milkshake of a different flavour.
me - chocolate
ah zai - strawberry
cmi - banana with vanilla ice cream
their shakes were not bad but for some reason, i can never find the same chocolate milkshake that i used to have at milano's pizza long long time ago. i have tried so many place's chocolate milkshake, and none can ever match it. oh well.
so we hung around until 3 plus, reminising about our poly days and talked about the scandals and gossips in our 3 years.... and ah zai and i laughed over a really funny matter about cmi. i knew that it was very unglam to laugh so loudly in the cafe but i really could not control myself. kekekekeke.... we also talked about who were the people that we could work with and not. one of our more interesting cafe talks i must say.....
when we finally decided to leave (i had to work the next day!) it was already 3 plus. on the way to the UE square bus stop, we saw many policemen and 1 police car and van. i noticed many people sitting outside cheeky monkeys and i swear that there were many many indians around then. when we walked past the policemen, i told ah zai, "zaihan! u ex-cop! go help them lar!"
"you didnt have to say that so loud lor! wah, i must say, this police division have no good looking policemen! or women!'
"har? there are good looking police around meh?!"
he then explained that his division where he used to work at had so many good looking people..... i wonder why. hmmm... must go check it out. maybe can go there to report loss of wallet or something next time. hahahhhhahahaa....
surprisingly, i didnt feel very sleepy at work and i met bunny for body step class at 3pm. to be continued........
darn. i just kicked over my room's dustbin and everything spilled out. whooo pee....
