25th Oct 2005 Tuesday
What a lousy day!
Day started out feeling extremely cold.... my toes felt like they were frozen for the past few hours and i was shivering on my bed. Could be due to the fact that i kicked my blanket aside while sleeping (this is a very common thing) so i slept through the cold night without a blanket......... very good lor.
So i decided to wear something that is long sleeved and was even considering wearing some outfit that required me to wear socks and shoes.... but there was nothing like that suitable for work, so i wore my white long sleeved psbb blouse. Went to the toilet (at office, the toilet is quite unglam, think of those toilets in industrial buildings. just have the basic necessities there only, i.e toilet bowl and sink) and as i was walking out of the door, the door closed too quickly (or rather i walked too slowly perhaps) and it closed onto my left hand. It left an unsightly black mark on my clean white sleeve. So ended up having to wash it with soap in the office. My left arm was feeling cold for the whole morning because of my wet sleeve.
Oh, and while i was trying to wash off the black mark on my left sleeve, my right sleeve got wet as well.
During lunch, i decided to go to the toilet one more time, at the kopitiam. There, the bottom part of my blouse got soaked in the flooding accumulated at the sink. So clever lor!!
Anyway, for the whole day, i was trying very hard to solve or to resolve some design issue for my project. Frustrated, i decided to meet Ah Zai for some advice after work. Decided to meet him at Admiralty and although today was one of the few rare times i managed to leave work at 615pm, i waited almost 15 mins for the bus to get to Toa Payoh. And the double decker bus was stuck in the peak hour traffic. Damn. And halfway through the journey, the bell got stuck. So allllllll the way from the beginning of MacPherson Road to Toa Payoh interchange, the bell was ringing at a constant "dong" and rhytmn.... which even the music from my poddy could not block out. Terrible.........
Once i got to the Mrt to get up to Admiralty, it was packed (once again) so i had to park myself in front of a bar. There, a smelly man stood in front of me. After he moved to sit down, the train seemed to be exceptionally shaky today and it was swaying from side to side! I was holding on the bar for almost the whole journey, while sms-ing Ah Zai and Lady. A few times, the train shoke a little too violently, and i had to balance myself on my 2 inch heels and holding my phone and bar at the same time. I think i looked like i was doing some CMI breakdance step.
Parked myself at Macs and waited for Ah Zai to arrive fashionably. For some reason, the guy behind me was talking very loudly and it was hard to talk to Ah Zai about my design..... anyway, he helped quite a bit in helping me resolve the problem so i happily ate some yogurt while waiting for his best friend Matty to call him. He also lent me this really cute comic that he bought online for a good US$6. It is super sadist and retarded humor.
After reading through a few strips....
"Oh my god Ah Zai! This comic book is like..... super retarded lor!"
"Hahahahaa!! Ya i know! I like!"

I-nearly-exploded-a-cake-day
Today was the day that we were supposed to celebrate Gaz's 24th birthday and we ordered something for him online, but it has not arrived from the USA yet! So Ah Zai and i decided to bake him a cake!! The inital idea was actually something very "perverted" but that idea was abolished after we decided to bake at my house. I told Ah Zai that i didnt want to shock my mum at such an early age. Anyway, he was supposed to reach my house by 1pm but my mum didnt return so early and i couldnt get receipes from her so i had to tell him to come later! Which he did and it resulted in us being late for the dinner..........
Anyway, we took a long time to decided which cake to bake and i felt very ambitious on that day for some reason because i wanted to do those super beautiful marzipan-ed cakes!! In the end, after taking almost an hour to decide which cake to bake (actually at that time, it wasnt really confirmed, but it was getting late, so we decided to start on the base sponge cake first), it was close to 3pm!! And the dinner starts at 6pm!
So, it started with both of us measuring out the ingredients for the cake.... after measuring out the flour, the next step was to sieve in the baking powder.
"Hmmm... ok, i tsp(teaspoon) of baking soda....." I take the 1 tbsp (tablespoon) measuring spoon and dunk it into the baking soda can.
"Dee, what are you doing?" Ah Zai questioned me with high suspicion in his voice.
"Measuring out the baking soda lar!"
Ah Zai snatches the receipe from table and scans through. "Anddd...................... how much baking soda are you supposed to put in??" points at the "1 tsp baking soda" sentence.
I stare blankly at the receipe and back at my measuring spoon, and back at the receipe before realising that i was using the wrong measurement!!!!!! Thank god he was there to notice, otherwise i would have exploded the cake!!!!!!!! Wahahhahaa!! Then maybe the cake might have a volcano theme to it instead.
The cake mixing turned out more tiring than expected because it was actually a 2.5kg cake!! Which is really huge!! After shoving the cake mixture into the oven, we quickly decided that we had to get chocolate frosting, so my mum told me to drive down to Holland V (a baking shop at Chip Bee Gardens) to get the neccessary stuff. Got almost everything except for this item - Light Corn Syrup. The sales staff told us that we could try getting it at Cold Storage as they do not carry this item.
We also called Susie and Don (they were in the office) so that we could pick them up and go back to my place together..... Susie told us to try getting the Light Corn Syrup at this super posh looking store that sold organic foodstuff. So i unlocked my car and demanded that the 2 stay in my un-ventilated car while the 2 of us rushed off to the store. When Ah Zai and i first walked into the shop, i was almost confident that we could get something posh like "Light Corn Syrup" from such a place, but i was wrong!!! In fact, the friendly staff told us to get it at Cold Storage! We must have looked pretty flustered and desperate because when we turned to walk out through the front door, the staff told us in a slightly panicky voice, "Oh! You can go to Cold Storage through the back door! It's nearer this way!"
Sensing the urgency in his voice, 2 of us gratefully walked through the back door, and for some reason, i decided to start running! (ok la, my running equals to someone brisk walking) When we finally got to Cold Storage, we frantically looked through the tall shelvings and when Ah Zai stood at a potential corner, we still could not find it! But after hovering around there for a while, i saw it tucked away at the top shelf and i was so excited finding it! But when i saw the price - $6.05, i yelled, "Wah lau! So expensive this... this bottle of corn!"
Delighted with our find, we rushed to the express counter..... There, i told Ah Zai, "Hey..... you know what this feels like..... that TV gameshow that we used to watch when we were in secondary school........... The Price Is Right!"
"Oh yeah!! I looooovvvveeed that show! And that show where they just go running around the supermarket buying everything within that price?? Cools!!"
Now, why dont Singapore have such gameshows?? Stop copying those irritating Taiwanese talk shows and all. Just go back to basics and do these super corny shows and sensationalise it!!!
Anyway, we had to run back to the car (across the street) and i sped back home. Susie seemed impressed that i could still spot cute cats lounging around the roads even when i was speed driving............... ok la, not speed driving can.
It was back to work for the 4 of us, me and Ah Zai for the cake while the other 2 had to finish up some work. The melting of the dark chocolate was fairly easy and it went well, but when it got to the white chocolate, and after adding some cream to it, it didnt look very appetizing, so we decided to colour that orange and use it to pipe the words. I think i was super stoned or something, because i realised that i was squeezing the orange stuff out of the piping bag from the top instead and it was overflowing all over my hands! Of course we had to do a new piping bag after that..........
In our rush, (Don and Susie had to rush down to Bugis first to meet the birthday boy who was making a lot of noise because no one turned up yet.) we decided to put the cake in the frezzer to chill the cake because the orange words were melting!! Quickly drove down to Bugis seoul garden and we put on 24 candles for him to blow out! Hahahahaaa.... The cake turned out a little dry but the chocolate was really nice!! My mum even gave us some plastic containers to put the leftover cake to bring home.... After the dinner, at least 5 of us were holding the plastic containers in our hands. I think i overheard Mr Sarcastic comment that we look like we just attended a Malay wedding.
After dinner, we could not decide where to hang out, so Ah Zai, Susie, Miss What, Don and i hung out at Muji while the rest decided where to go. I can't remember the sequence, but i think Don and i wanted to go to the toilet so we walked off for a while. It was then that Don told me that he was happy that i gave him some advice the other day and it is not often that he received such constructive comments. I also felt happy that i helped because it seemed long since someone told me that too. :D
Anyway, we finally decided on Pasir Ris Park because 90% of the group stays in the east, (only Ah Zai and i were the outcasts) and we hung out at this place called "The Reef". We sat near the beach but it was a little smelly. The DJ for the night was this young girl/Ah Lian and her voice was super teh and irritating!!! I was really cringing whenever she talks. And her jokes were quite lame as well..... After Gaz went up to them to request for S.H.E's superstar song, the DJ kept on talking about how she was impressed that Gaz listens to Chinese music and how she will play Malay songs if she had any and blahblahblah. Then she even assumed that i was his girlfriend (i was sitting beside him) but the rest of the group told me to play along. :D Ah Zai tried to irritate me by requesting for Mariah's songs...... but they shoved that song till much later and they played it after we got up to leave! Hahahaaa!!
Decided to send Ah Zai home because i was in a good mood and went back home to snooozzzee......... Gotta go and rest now! Should be a long day tomorrow and mum will be going to China soon! She was nagging me in the car this morning about watering her precious pandan leaf plant while she's gone (because the last time she went to China, i killed the plant due to me watering it every alternate day when it requires daily watering.) so after nagging me for a while, i jokingly scolded her, "Ya la ya la...... just take your plant to........ China lar!"
And she looked like she was really thinking of doing just that. Her theory is that there dont seem to be any pandan leaves in China, so she could bring a young one there to plant at my father's apartment. So clever............
